Uses: Acetic
acid is widely used in the production of vinyl acetate monomer, as a precursor
to acetic anhydride and ester production, and as a food additive (vinegar). It
is also used in chemical synthesis and as a solvent.
Process: Acetic acid is primarily manufactured via methanol
carbonylation, where methanol reacts with carbon monoxide in the presence of a
catalyst.
